Q: Does this network adapter use a USB4 or Thunderbolt interface? What is the maximum speed?
A: This adapter features a USB4 interface and is fully backward compatible with Thunderbolt 3 and Thunderbolt 4 hosts. It is equipped with dual 10G SFP+ ports, delivering a total network throughput of up to 20GbE when both ports are utilized simultaneously for blazing-fast data transfers.
Q: Is this USB4 to 10G SFP+ network card plug-and-play (driverless)?
A: No, a driver is required for full functionality. The adapter uses the RTL8127 chipset. Please ensure you download and install the official RTL8127 driver before connecting it to your computer, laptop, or NAS.
Q: What operating systems are supported? Can I use it on Mac or a Synology NAS?
A: Officially, the specifications state support for Windows and Linux (with native support in Linux kernel 5.x+). Mac OS is currently not supported. If you plan to use it on closed-source NAS platforms like Synology, please verify the availability of third-party community drivers for the RTL8127 chipset beforehand.
Q: What types of SFP+ optical modules are compatible, and what distances do they support?
A: The adapter offers great compatibility and supports both 10G SR (Short Range multimode, 850nm, up to 300 meters) and 10G LR (Long Range single-mode, 1310nm, up to 10 kilometers) SFP+ optical modules.
Q: Does running dual 10G ports generate a lot of heat? What is its actual power consumption? Does it require an external power supply?
A: Yes, this adapter requires an external 12V 3A power adapter, which is included in the box. It is not bus-powered via the USB4/Thunderbolt interface. The enclosure uses a full aluminum alloy finned passive cooling design, ensuring stable long-term operation. In 10GBASE-R mode, the power consumption is only 2.5W (ultra-low power), and even under full-load operation, the maximum power consumption is only 7.4W.
Q: Who is this external 10G network adapter designed for?
A: It is perfect for network engineers, content creators (video editors), and IT professionals who use laptops, mini PCs, or NAS devices where installing an internal PCIe card is not possible. It delivers enterprise-grade 10G fiber connectivity without needing to open your computer chassis.
Q: Can the two SFP+ ports be configured independently, and do they support link aggregation?
A: Yes, the two 10G SFP+ ports operate independently and can connect to different networks, switches, or devices. Since they are recognized as separate network interfaces in Windows/Linux, you can configure Link Aggregation (Teaming/Bonding) via OS software or managed switches for bandwidth aggregation or failover redundancy.
Q: What's included in the box? Can I use a regular USB-C smartphone charging cable?
A: The package includes 1× adapter unit, 1× dedicated USB4 cable, 1× 12V 3A power adapter, and 1× quick start guide. It is strongly recommended to use the included cable or a certified USB4 / Thunderbolt 4 cable. Standard low-cost USB-C charging cables or USB 3.0 cables will not be recognized and cannot provide the 40Gbps bandwidth required for a 10GbE network adapter.
Q: Can it be used or passed through in virtualization systems like PVE (Proxmox VE) or ESXi?
A: This product is based on Linux driver support (natively supported in Linux kernel 5.x and above). On PVE (based on Debian Linux), as long as the kernel includes the driver or the RTL8127 driver is manually compiled, it can be fully recognized and used for virtual machine network bridging. ESXi users need to check whether the community has released a corresponding Realtek driver patch.
Q: What are the advantages of this SFP+ fiber adapter compared to regular 10G RJ45 copper network cards?
A: SFP+ fiber connections offer lower latency, significantly lower power consumption (as low as 2.5W), and much less heat generation compared to traditional 10G Base-T RJ45 copper connections, while being completely immune to electromagnetic interference (EMI). Combined with its low-power chip design, it ensures maximum throughput stability without thermal throttling during heavy workload.
